Take a peek into a typical day at Kindred Spirits Schoolhouse.

A typical day in our multi-age classroom is thoughtfully structured to provide a balanced blend of academic learning, social interaction, and creative expression for all students. The day begins with a welcoming morning routine to establish a positive and organized start, including activities like morning meeting and discussions about the day’s schedule.
For our preschoolers, this is followed by various activities designed to promote learning and development such as sensory exploration, free play, early literacy skills and fine and gross motor activities.

For our K-6 students, a significant portion of the day is devoted to literacy and numeracy activities, which includes guided reading, phonics, math games, and writing exercises tailored to the students’ developmental levels. Teachers incorporate interactive lessons in science, social studies, and art to broaden the children’s knowledge and stimulate their curiosity.

Snack and lunch times not only fulfill nutritional needs but also serve as opportunities for learning about healthy eating habits, practicing manners and socializing with peers. Outdoor recess is a cherished part of the day, allowing students to burn off energy and engage in cooperative, imaginative play.

All students are able to participate in music and movement, and creative arts activities to encourage creativity, self-expression and exploration. Throughout the day, teachers focus on building social and emotional skills along with key academic concepts, through play and hands-on lessons and activities.

The day closes with a reflective activity, such as a whole group discussion or story time, providing a sense of closure and fulfillment, before students prepare to go home. This dynamic schedule fosters a love for learning while nurturing the social, emotional, and cognitive development of all students.
